Jonathan Holslag tijdens TLN Inspireert: Geopolitieke ontwikkelingen & invloed van de BRICS-landen
Op 27 januari 2024 vindt de eerste editie van TLN Inspireert! plaats, een veelzijdig event speciaal georganiseerd voor TLN-leden en partners. De komende weken zetten we telkens een onderdeel van het programma in de spotlight. Deze week is dat de keynote van Jonathan Holslag.
De wereld staat in brand en de vuurzee komt steeds dichterbij: Oekraïne, Gaza, Noord-Afrika. Weg zijn de droombeelden van een wereld waarin handel en contact de grote conflicten zouden overwinnen. Als er al contact is, dan willen landen die vooral controleren. Ook de transportsector wordt een arena van machtspolitiek. De logistieke sector moet zich schrap zetten voor een lange periode van onzekerheid. In zijn bijdrage legt professor Jonathan Holslag uit hoe logistieke bedrijven in die woelige wereld aan hun weerbaarheid kunnen bouwen.
Cuno Vat, ondernemer en eigenaar van het internationaal opererend familiebedrijf Neele-Vat Logistics en daarnaast o.a. bestuurslid van TLN, over deze keynote: “Wij zijn als internationaal opererende ondernemingen iedere dag bezig met het vaak impliciet beoordelen van de geopolitieke situatie in de wereld. Dat is niet altijd even makkelijk… Oekraïne, Gaza, Noord-Afrika, Zuid Chinese Zee. Op de eerste plaats raken deze ontwikkelingen de plaatselijke bevolking. Maar het raakt ons in Europa ook en wij moeten er als internationale ondernemingen mee dealen. Visies over de Chinese Zijderoute, Europe’s Global Gateway, de Russisch Euraziatische Unie waren mooi, maar wat zijn ze nu nog waard? Natuurlijk moeten wij als ondernemers hier onze eigen weg in vinden, maar als er íemand is die ons daarbij kan helpen is het Jonathan Holslag. Deze hoogleraar en topadviseur analyseert helder en scherp de geopolitieke situatie in de wereld en is daarbij een groot kenner van China. Alleen al de aanwezigheid van deze topspreker maakt het voor mij de moeite waard om naar TLN Inspireert! te komen.
Bio: Jonathan Holslag doceert internationale politiek aan de Vrije Universiteit Brussel en als gastdocent aan vele andere universiteiten in de wereld. Hij adviseerde tal van overheidsinstellingen en grote bedrijven. Jonathan is tevens reservist in de Belgische krijgsmacht.

On 27 January 2024, the first edition of TLN Inspireert! will take place, a multi-faceted event specially organised for TLN members and partners. In the coming period, we will highlight a new part of the programme every week. This week it’s Jonathan Holslag’s keynote.
The world is on fire and the conflagration is getting closer: Ukraine, Gaza, North Africa. The dream images of a world where trade and contact would overcome major conflicts are gone. If there is contact at all, countries mainly want to control it. The transport sector is also becoming an arena of power politics. The logistics sector must brace itself for a long period of uncertainty. In his contribution, professor Jonathan Holslag will explain how logistics companies can build their resilience in this turbulent world.

Bio: Jonathan Holslag teaches international politics at the Free University of Brussels and as a guest lecturer at many other universities around the world. He has advised numerous government institutions and major companies. Jonathan is also a reservist in the Belgian armed forces.
